Research Interests
Hong’s main research interests include psychosocial consequences of non-normative parenting and caregiving, and the relationship between social support and psychological well-being among older adults. He has been working on the projects investigating how having a child with disabilities such as autism, Schizophrenia, or mental retardation in the family affects life course paths of family members and their psychological well-being. In addition, currently, he explores how and to what extends mild intellectual deficits has an effect on life course paths of individuals. The second line of his research focuses on the impacts of social support and social network on well-being. He has examined how the scope of social support network and emotional supports affect the psychological well-being of parents of an adult child with disabilities. Specifically, he is interested in how social support buffers the detrimental effects of caregiving stressors on psychological outcomes.
