Dr. Ayanian's research focuses on the effect of patients' race, ethnicity, gender, insurance coverage, and socioeconomic characteristics on access to care and health outcomes, as well as the impact of physician and organizational characteristics on the quality of care. Dr. Ayanian is the Director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation at the University of Michigan. With over 400 faculty members from 14 schools and colleges at the University, the mission of the Institute is to promote collaborative health services research to improve the quality, safety, equity, and affordability of health care. Dr. Ayanian is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the Institute of Medicine.
